Vasant \ spring and Summer and ayurveda

Though the season varies in timetable across the world, summer is coming sooner or later and we should be prepared to face it from front. According to ayurveda there are 6 rutus or seasons and not just three or four. Out of which this summer is called as grishm rutu.
Actually after the winter rutus are over there is a rutu called Vasant which is somewhat like spring and has transitional qualities. In Pune India we are experiencing the same season just now. It is cold in the morning and hot in the afternoons. So thia is a transition time and many people suffer from different diseases like common cold cough fever while some also face gastric disturbances too along including diarrhea and acidity. It is because of the facts that 1. decreased immunity 2. vitiation of kaf dosha which tries to liquidate this month due to increasing heat & 3.inadequate digesting power of stomach attributed to lack of full flow of digestive juices as like in winter. So for Vasant rutu ayurveda suggests many step adjustment Firstly eradicate kaf dosha by vomiting or the Vaman karm [ which is done after proper oliation and fomentation by the use of medicines like jyeshthamadh or licorice ]. Use of camphor and sandalwood powder for external application on skin after your bath so as to prevent coming up heat of the afternoon.Then the use of medicine called drakshasav which is made up of grapes. Use of 1 tsf honey along with 1 glass of simple tap water is useful.
Ayurveda also prescribes liquors in this rutu but we Doctors never do so as it being addictive liquid it is quite possible that many would cross the limits and lead their way to unhealthy life or may be subsequently be fetal for a small section of population. So never go for it for long healthy life.Stay on drakshasav or madhvasav instead of it.
In old times group of people would go out in nature or garden and celebrate vasantotsav which is good for health in this season. They would spend day in woods along with birds and springs.
In this season avoid heavy to digest foods, cold beverages , sweets and sour food items.For better digestion use butter milk with hingashtak powder after meals.
